From our friends at the Laughing Devil in Long Island City:
In an effort to help connect audiences to filmmakers, Laughing Devil Movie Pub has launched two new film series that begin next weekend.
The first, our monthly Filmmaker series, gives independent filmmakers a chance to screen their completed works for audiences before they’re picked up for theatrical distribution. The filmmakers set the ticket price, and proceeds go directly to them. In addition to seeing films they can’t see anywhere else, audience members will get to discuss the film with its creators, further deepening their appreciation of this art form.
On Saturday, January 18th, we are screening “She Wants Me”, an independent film starring Josh Gad, Hillary Duff and Charlie Sheen. Director Rob Margolies will be on hand to do a Q&A after the screening to discuss his process, share stories from the set and tell us what it is like to work with Charlie Sheen (who also co-produced the film). Screenings are at 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM and cost $10.
Margolies can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org for comment.
The second new series is the Laughing Devil Short Film Festival, a rolling series of monthly short film screenings culminating in a five day, jury panel judged film festival in December, where audiences will get to view nearly a hundred short films from all over the world.
The first screening is Sunday, January 19th at 8:00 PM. Five to ten short films of various lengths will be screened, with time in between for brief Q&As with attending filmmakers about their work. Afterwards, there will be a cocktail party at the pub, allowing audience members to socialize with the filmmakers.
The first edition will focus entirely on New York Filmmakers, letting audiences connect with auteurs from their own backyard.
Tickets are only $5.
